The most sacred place dwells within our heart, where dreams are born and secrets sleep. A mystical refuge of darkness and light, fear and conquest, adventure and discovery, challenge and transformation. Our heart speaks for our soul every moment while we are alive. Listen. . . as the whispering beat repeats: Be-gin, Be-gin, Be-gin. . . It’s really that simple. Just begin – again. –> Royce Addington

It’s been a little more than two years since I found my way to the Nokota Preserve. I am a firm believer that there are no coincidences in life. There is a reason for everything that happens. Nothing happens by chance.

I didn’t grow up in the horse world and until I came to the farm, I had only admired horses from a distance. Never would I have ever imagined I would come to spend countless hours in open fields with these wild horses from the Badlands of North Dakota. These magical horses who descended from the legendary horses of the great Chief Sitting Bull, of the Hunkpapa Lakota people.

I look forward to the day I am able to visit the herd out in North Dakota and spend time on that vast expanse of land. What a dream it will be to feel the energy of those horses running free!

I have met so many incredible people who work so hard to save the lineage of these wild horses. I will forever be grateful to my friend, Christine, who has always given me an open door to visit and taught me so much about the language of the horse. She inspires me to live my dreams!

My friend, Rami, and I met some time ago at the farm. She grew up with horses and longed for a Nokota to call her own. Last fall some new horses arrived from North Dakota and she clicked with one of them, Marquis. The stars fell into alignment and today, Rami and Marquis are walking the path together, sharing their journey.

It is a process for a horse and its partner to join together. Natural Horsemanship will forever capture my heart. It is a beautiful experience to watch a wild horse willingly partner and work with a human and arrive at a point where they can ride the winds together. Rami and Marquis are just beginning this journey together. The road is long but so worth it. There will be challenges and days where you wonder if you made the right choices, but when those moments arrive, just pause and breath and return to your center. Find your heartbeat and repeat to yourself, Be-gin, Be-gin, Be-gin…Royce Addington was right, it really is that simple.

One breath at a time. . .One step at a time. . .Just keep going. The journey is long but beautiful. . .

I believe it is in our DNA to be connected to nature, animals and each other. When I look through the lens of my camera, I want to highlight this connection and preserve it so you can share your story with future generations.
