There are some evenings that feel a little bit like they were waiting for you.
Our September Senior Rep Team shoot was one of them.
Fall has gently arrived along the Carolina coast, although summer hasn’t completely loosened its grip just yet. But on this particular evening, the temperatures had softened, the breeze felt wonderful, and we were given the opportunity to spend a few hours somewhere that felt almost too perfect to be real.
Fields filled with flowers. Sunflowers stretching toward the sky. Rows of colorful blooms begging to be wandered through. Wide-open space. And five seniors with an evening ahead of them and nowhere else they needed to be.
It felt like the perfect way to welcome a brand-new season.

An Evening Made for Frolicking
Not every Rep Team shoot needs an elaborate plan.
Sometimes the best plan is simply to show up and see where the evening takes us.
And that was exactly what I wanted this one to be.
There were cozy clothing layers, bouquets gathered from the fields, plenty of photographs, and a whole lot of frolicking among the flowers. We wandered. We laughed. We stopped when the light was beautiful. We let the girls be themselves.
There was no rush to make the evening into anything more than what it already was.
And honestly?
That was the magic of it.
Because when I look through these photographs, I don’t just see five beautiful high school seniors standing in a field of flowers.
I see their senior year happening.
I see the laughter between photographs. The conversations happening as we walk from one spot to another. The way they’re becoming more comfortable with each other with every adventure we share.
Those are the pieces I never want to overlook.

The Part That Didn’t Need a Camera
As beautiful as the photographs from this evening are, one of my favorite parts happened when most of the photographing was already finished.
The sun had fallen below the horizon. Our beautiful light was disappearing. And for the first time during one of our group shoots, we had a little extra time to simply sit together.
So that’s what we did.
The girls sat down and talked.
No posing. No rushing to the next location. No agenda.
Just five girls having a little girl-talk at the end of a really beautiful evening.
I stood nearby listening to the laughter and watching the conversations unfold, and I remember thinking, this is it.
This is why I wanted the Sage Willow Senior Rep Team to be more than photographs.
Of course I want these girls to have an incredible collection of images from their senior year. I want them to look back someday and see exactly who they were during this fleeting season of their lives.
But I also want them to remember what it felt like.
The adventures. The laughter. The ridiculous moments. The places we explored. The flowers they picked and carried home. And the friendships that had room to grow because, every so often, we intentionally made time to simply be together.

Maybe This Is How We Slow It Down
Senior year has a funny way of feeling long when it begins.
There are football games ahead. Homecoming. Holidays. College applications and decisions. Prom. All of those lasts that don’t quite feel like lasts when they’re happening.
And then somehow, you blink.
Spring arrives.
Caps and gowns come out.
Graduation announcements begin appearing.
And these kids we’ve been calling seniors suddenly walk across a stage and into whatever comes next.
I know we’re going to blink and be there with this group, too.
Maybe that’s part of why these evenings mean so much to me.
I can’t stop time for them. I can’t make senior year move any slower.
But maybe, in our own little way, we can slow it down just enough to notice it.
We can spend an evening wandering through flowers.
We can laugh until our cheeks hurt.
We can sit together after sunset when technically the “session” is already over.
And we can make photographs along the way that someday remind them that they were really, truly there.
Not rushing toward the next thing.
Not wishing this season away.
Just seventeen or eighteen years old, surrounded by flowers and new friends, with their whole lives still waiting ahead of them.
And maybe that’s the real magic.

A New Season Begins
This was our first Rep Team adventure of fall, and somehow it felt exactly right.
The days will continue getting shorter now. The evenings will grow cooler. The flowers will eventually fade, and this season will gently make way for the next.
And we’ll keep going, too.
There are still more adventures ahead for these girls. More photographs to create. More stories to tell. More pieces of their senior year to preserve.

But this one?
I think we’ll remember this one.
The flowers. The cooler breeze. The bouquets carried home. The laughter after sunset.
And five seniors who got to step away from the busyness of senior year for a few hours and simply frolic through the flowers together.
Wild & Free. Unforgettable. Just like you. 🤍
